Bouquet of Flowers on Table

How to Make a Spring Bouquet

Bouquet of Flowers on TableBouquets aren’t just for special occasions. You can make your own spring bouquet to brighten up your home and give it a flowery scent. Use the following steps to create a spring bouquet for your apartment.

Choose a Theme

Having a theme for your bouquet, such as a color scheme or certain types of flowers, makes it easier to select the right flowers for it. Consider making a bouquet of pastel-toned flowers, or choose flowers that have vivid colors. You can also make a bouquet filled with tropical flowers or wildflowers for a bold look, or select classic spring flowers, such as tulips and hydrangeas. Once you have your theme, you can head to your local florist, farmers market or supermarket to select flowers.

Get Your Flowers Ready

When you bring your flowers home, get them ready for the bouquet by trimming the stems. Doing this helps the flowers last longer. You can trim the stems more if you plan on having shorter flowers in your bouquet.

Put Your Bouquet Together

Once your flowers are trimmed to the right length, you can start adding them to your bouquet. You can make your bouquet in a vase or a creative container that holds water. Put a few of the main flowers or most visible ones in the vase or container first, then put smaller flowers around them. Turn the vase or container around to check your bouquet on all sides. Rearrange flowers as needed to create an eye-catching bouquet. You can place a rubber band around the stems if your flowers keep moving around.

Keep Your Bouquet Fresh

Fresh flowers don’t last forever, but you can keep yours looking good for a longer length of time with a few tips. Change the water every other day to stop bacteria from spreading in the vase or container. Trim the stems of your flowers every other day as well, and add a bit of sugar to the water to help them thrive longer.

Brown Eggs

6 Meals to Make for Mom on Mother’s Day

Brown EggsYou can always take Mom out for brunch to celebrate Mother’s Day, but there’s just something more special about a home cooked meal. Residents of Westminster apartments know that inviting mom over to enjoy a meal is the perfect way to show her just how much you care. If you’re wondering what to make for the occasion, here are 6 great ideas.

6 of Our Favorite Dishes to Celebrate Mom

Brunch is the big one, so we’ll start out with three dishes that are perfect for that late morning meal, and then end with three dishes when you feel like thinking outside of the breakfast-lunch combo.

  1. What would brunch be without eggs? Well, eggs and bacon. With this omelet, you can have them all at once, in an elegant package, that is much more impressive to look at and taste than it is labor intensive. Plus, don’t forget the side salad for the woman who taught you to eat your vegetables.
  2. Brunch is the perfect meal for indulging in something carb-heavy and sweet, and if you’re going to indulge, then dark chocolate should always be involved. Enter these dark chocolate waffles that hit all the spots.
  3. For the mom who’s not such a fan of heavy breakfast foods, you can’t go wrong with these spiced strawberries with yogurt. Sweet and tart and savory all at once. And Mom will be impressed by the healthy choice.
  4. More interested in serving more of a lunch than a brunch? Who but Mom will better appreciate this elegant luncheon classic.
  5. Something sweet and the Mother’s Day classic of flowers and homemade in one single item? Impossible you say? Well, meet the flowerpot cake. A bit labor intensive, but Mom is more than worth it.
  6. Moms know how to have fun, and there’s no better way to show her you appreciate that about her than with a cool rhubarb daiquiri.

Does Mom have the habit of doing all the dishes even when she’s the honored guest? Not a chance on Mother’s Day. You’ll both be able to sit back and relax with built-in dishwashers and disposals. The kitchen practically cleans itself, leaving everyone free time to enjoy Mom’s special day. To learn more about the excellent features of our apartments at 9100 Vance, give us a call.

Steaks on Grill

How to Grill the Perfect Steak

Steaks on GrillOur apartments in Westminster provides great barbecue and picnic areas for anyone who wants to enjoy spring and summer to the fullest. At the same time, even a top-notch barbecue grill does not guarantee that your steak will come out right. Following are some tips that can help you grill the perfect steak for yourself, family members and/or friends.

Buy Top Quality Steaks

Prime grade and Choice steaks are your best option. If you aren’t sure which Choice steaks are best for your event, talk to the butcher to get expert advice.

Marinate the Meat

Marinating your steaks gives them added flavor. Marinate your steaks overnight to help the meat absorb the tasty herbs and spices. There are a plethora of marinade recipes online; you simply have to look over the options to find one that suits your tastes. Keep the meat in the refrigerator while it marinates but take it out about an hour before grilling.

Heat Up the Grill

The grill should be sizzling hot before you set your steaks on it. You want your meat crisp and almost burnt on the outside but tender and at least a little red on the inside.

Use a Meat Thermometer

It’s hard to know when grilled steak is done, which is why many people wisely invest in a meat thermometer. You simply poke the thermometer into your steak to see the interior temperature before you take your meat off the grill. Rare steaks should be about 125 degrees while well-done steaks should be 155 degrees. Bear in mind that thick steaks may continue to rise in temperature even after you remove them from the grill, so pull thick steaks off early if you don’t want it to overcook.

A perfect barbecue can undoubtedly create a memorable occasion; even so, your barbecue venue also plays an important role in any event. Our Westminster, Colorado apartments offer community amenities for any event, including a clubroom, pool, spa, indoor basketball court and sand volleyball court. Small Planted Herb Garden

4 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Small Planted Herb GardenEarth Day is April 22 and is a great day to take some time to do some fun and eco-friendly activities. From opting to walk or bike instead of drive to making a simple change in your Westminster apartment home, you can make a difference and have an impact on the world around you. Here are 4 ways to celebrate Earth Day:

Walk or Ride a Bike

Ditch the car and the carbon emissions by taking a day off from driving. Whether you choose to walk or bike to work or simply stay home for the day, you’ll be cutting your carbon footprint. Even taking the bus can help curb emissions—one bus can take the place of over 50 individual vehicles at peak times of day!

Plant a Seed – or a Dozen

The end of April is the perfect time to start a balcony or patio garden and every time you use an herb you grew yourself or bite into a sweet cherry tomato you started from seed, you’ll remember Earth Day. Planting your own container garden is not only great for the planet, you’ll have fresh food at your fingertips and be beautifying your home as well.

Recycle Items

While you may already recycle glass or plastic, a run through your home while passing items you no longer use onto someone else is a great way to recycle. Not only will you be providing someone else with a piece they can use, you’ll declutter your own home and cut down on the amount of consumer goods purchased, too.

Consider Composting

You don’t need a huge outside barrel to compost; a tabletop compost bin allows you to recycle food scraps and cut the amount of trash you have to deal with each week. Today’s compost models work better than ever and allow you to combat food waste at home while creating the perfect soil for next year’s plants, too.

Celebrating Earth Day is fun and easy in our comfortable Westminster apartment homes! Call us or stop by our office and check out our apartments in Westminster to find the right floor plan that fits your lifestyle.

Did You Catch Denver’s Restaurant Week?

PastaEveryone loves food, and residents of Westminster apartments were able to get all of the professionally-cooked fares they could handle over in the big city during Denver Restaurant Week. Running from February 24 – March 5, this event featured over 100 restaurants offering specials that made it easy to go from one to another and sample plenty of offerings or sit down at an already-chosen favorite for a delicious feast.

Is it Too Late to Have Great Food in Denver?

Unlike many events, you don’t have to wait until next year to recreate the best part of the Restaurant Week experience: the food itself. All of the restaurants are fixtures of the Denver landscape, so they’re ready and eager to serve you the food you want at any time of year. Choose from multi-course meals at neighborhood eateries, or check out the wine-based establishments if you’re more interested in the liquid side of your lunch or dinner. You’ll find that the full variety of restaurant choices, from casual cafes all the way to classy five-star establishments, still awaits you.

What Else Happened During Restaurant Week?

There were a couple of sponsorships that took notice, starting with a car giveaway by Lexus. The thought of winning a car is always great, but opportunities to do so will surely pop up sporadically throughout the year. A sponsorship more closely aligned with the restaurant theme came from Johnson and Wales University, which has a culinary school. It surely drew extra attention since many people want to learn how to replicate the dishes they taste at fancy eateries.

People had the opportunity to submit “fan photos” of their favorite dishes to the Restaurant Week site. The images chosen are professional quality pictures like you’d see in magazines. This may inspire you to look into another hobby besides food: photography.

Restaurant Week is just one of the events that take place in Denver every year. Make a note to go next year if you missed this year’s extravaganza.

In order to fully enjoy living near Denver, you need a comfortable home to come back to. Stop by our offices here in Westminster to see our available floor plans and check out the community amenities.

Man Wearing Green

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the Annual Parade in Denver!

Man Wearing GreenA big, fun holiday is often best marked with a parade, and Denver hasn’t missed the opportunity to do just that for St. Patrick’s Day. Residents of Westminster apartments who love parades will be able to catch the one in the city live by going there in person on March 11 at 9:30 A.M. The route will go mainly down Blake Road, picking up the road at 17th Street and finishing just past 27th Street. A few other roads are included near the starting point. The entire route map is available on the site dedicated to the parade.

Like most parades, this one has a Grand Marshal and a Parade Queen leading. Next will come the Little Shamrocks, who, as the name implies, are children. They’ll have their own float.

Rules and Suggestions for Parade Watchers

Simple rules and suggestions have been provided by the parade organizers for everyone’s safety and comfort. Hard rules include refraining from throwing candy and other objects at, onto, or off of the floats. Drones are also prohibited.

Suggestions help ensure comfort rather than safety, and one of the big ones is to dress in layers so you’re prepared for whatever weather Denver decides to offer that day.

Viewers are also advised to bring plenty of water. This will not only ensure general comfort but will help visitors from out of the area handle Denver’s high altitude.

If you encounter any difficulties, you’ll be able to get help from any of the several parade marshals that will be present. They’ll be easy to spot in their golf carts and green logo jackets. They have radio communication with both police and medical services.

Parade organizers say to plan for the entire event to last about four hours, though there is no set time since weather and other conditions can affect the specifics.

With these things in mind, you’ll be able to see the parade in person and have a great time. Once it’s over, come back to your apartment to relax. If you don’t have one in our community, just stop by our office. We’ll be glad to give you a tour of available homes!

Marshmallow over Campfire

Marshmallow over CampfireThe full moon is a time to celebrate and enjoy the beauty of nature. When you live in the 9100 Vance apartments in Westminster, Colorado, you are able to really enjoy the beauty of the full moon while eating s’mores in an outdoor environment.

Standley Lake Regional Park S’Mores Under the Full Moon

On February 11th, the Standley Lake Regional Park is hosting a full moon event for the local community and visitors. As a community member of the 9100 Vance apartments, you can enjoy watching the full moon with your neighbors, friends and family while eating s’mores at the park.

The park does ask for registration before you visit during the full moon. The event does have a limited number of spaces, so you want to register early to ensure that you and your family have space around the camp fire. You can take a stroll through the park during the evening hours and enjoy watching the moon rise with a group. You must pay the appropriate park fees to enter and enjoy the event, but the actual class is free of charge and you do not need to pay extra for the outdoor excursion.

Preparing for the Event

While the event does welcome any individual or group who registers, you must also prepare to avoid unnecessary complications. As a general rule, you want to wear appropriate attire for the weather conditions. Dress warmly and have a jacket to avoid feeling cold in the evening chill.

You do not need to bring a flashlight or any ingredients for s’mores. The event will have a camp fire to roast the marshmallows and prepare the s’mores. You are free to take a stroll under the full moon and ask questions of park naturalists if you have any questions about the park, nocturnal animals in the park or even activities that are appropriate during the event. All age groups are welcome at the full moon event, so it is an appropriate activity for families.

The Standley Lake Regional Park invites members of the local community and residents of Westminster apartments to enjoy eating s’mores while watching the full moon and enjoying the park. It is a great way to meet your neighbors or to enjoy an interesting experience in an outdoor setting.
